Name: John G.
Location: Columbus, Ohio, United States
Birthday: 4/25/1985

Interests: Let's see...If it involves music, movies, baseball, or Italy, chances are I'm interested in it. Musically, I enjoy listening to just about anything that isn't rap or country, and I perform on tuba in just about ensemble known to man. I'm extremely fortunate to have the chance to study tuba with Tucker Jolly at the University of Akron. However, music is not my major because my affinity for mathematics, attention to detail, and construction have me pursuing a degree in civil engineering. I love baseball, plain and simple. Few people outside of Cleveland follow the Tribe more than I do. I also love movies, especially mob flicks. The Godfather is simply the greatest movie ever made. And finally my Italian heritage provides me the opportunity to obsess over everything related to Italy, be it food, family, music, or romance.
Expertise: I have turned proscratination into a science. I somehow excell on the tuba despite the fact that I contradict every stereotype associated with tuba players. After mowing seven lawns a week for three consecutive summers, I now can make anyone's lawn look like a golf course. Being a goofball is second nature to me. And I have the tendency to obsess over anything I take a liking to. That of course can either be good or really really bad. In any case, I don't like to consider myself an expert of anything because I'm only 20 and life still has a bunch to teach me.

Dear Reader's.

For the record John is not dead, He has merely been incognito for the past three months.  While his whereabouts are still unknown, some have spectulations that he might have joined the Kansas chapter of the FFA (Future Farmers of America) and began a new, less stressful life out west.  While this may be difficult for some to believe, I myself do not find it too far-fetched.

Many times, while dining with John, he would often break out into songs such as "Home on the range", and Toby Keith's greatest hit, "Shoulda Been a Cowboy".  I thought this rather strange as he claims to have no appreciation for country music.  But I figured maybe he was just a "closet country music lover".  On occasion John and I would stop by the local Home Depot where he would admire the John Deere's for hours on end.  I never thought much of this until he would say things such as "howdy maam", and "she thinks my tractor's sexy" in his northernized southern draw. The crops were another thing. John took up an odd hobby of growing corn, squash, and tomatoes in the flower beds surrounding E.J. Thomas Hall.  Early in the morning, you could find him in his bib overalls tending the crops and whistling to himself.  Maybe he was trying to tell me something all this time.  I could blame myself, or maybe the pressures of college life, but maybe his true calling was the horseback riding, square dancing way of life.

Do not worry faithful xanga readers, I will keep you updated on the news of John Gerald Marchi's whereabouts as they come to me.  Until then, have a nice day.

Sincerely,

Monica

I swear each weekend just gets better than the previous.  Friday included dinner at Applebee's, a well-deserved Tribe victory, time with Barb, and plenty of smash bros.  Saturday started with a high school band show, Akron's first victory (took us five games last year), another Tribe victory, and an awesome dinner at Country Diner with my fellow tubas.  And Sunday, well, Barb and I went to church followed by breakfast at Eatin' Park, and proceeded to rent bikes in Peninsula which we then rode for 22 miles in Cuyahoga Valley National Park...my legs really hurt now. Oh and the Tribe swept the Royals , making them victors in 11 of their last 12 games.

Here's some pics from our awesome bike ride

Hurray for the most awesome Sunday ever!  Chuch and breakfast at Eatin' Park with Barb, Jon, and Stephen, then an afternoon at Sands Run Metro Park with Barb, followed by an evening concert complete with fireworks at the Blossom Center, then a late visit to the jacuzzi at the rec center, concluding with a night of Smash Bros. with the guys.  This sure beats the marching band trip to Penn State last Labor Day weekend.

Today has just been amazing.  Yeah, my classes all sucked but audition results were posted and I made it into symphonic band! We had our first rehearsal and all I can say is wow.  I'm sitting there playing with graduate musicians and other amazing musicians who want to make a living playing their instrument.  The sound, quality, discipline, and more things than I have time to ramble about here made for one of the most promising musical experiences of my life.  And I get to experience it three times a week!

Afterward the day just got better because I got to have dinner with Barb and walk around Akron with her on my arm.  Let the slideshow begin!

And then we watched Aladdin. The End.

It's good to back in Akron. Classes begin tomorrow, with my band audition sometime around 5.  If that goes well enough, I may get one of the two open seats in symphonic band, but more than likely I'll be in concert band, no biggie. Band camp went very well, and thanks to my summer job, several people seemed to take notice of me for the first time, lol.  I also took notice of someone however.  So there was this time at Akron's band camp, when I met a flute player, and true happiness found its way back to my heart .  Her name is Barbara Braidich.

What's so special about Barb? Well, she's simply the most adorable flautist/swimmer/lifeguard/former majorette/kick boxer/health enthusiast/Catholic/Nursing major/coffee addict/small town girl, among other things.  In addition to making me smile more frequently than I can remember in under a weeks time, she finds me attractive on many levels, hence my current euphoria of happiness.  In other matters, this week has been exciting, memorable, and exhausting.  Nonetheless, my room is finally set and organized.

And with our new audio/video setup, 6th floor ssbm nights will never be the same .
